Holidays in Kavarna Bulgaria
Kavarna is to be found to the North of Bulgaria and is at present the last major tourist stepping stone before you reach the
Bulgarian-Romanian border.
Situated 48 kilometres from Varna, Kavarna has a relatively small population of 12.5000 people.
The small town is soon to benefit from an increase of visitors and residents due to the impending completion of three golf courses nearby, by the end of both this and next year. Designed by Gary Player and Ian Woosnam respectively, in a beautiful setting, these golf developments are expected to put Kavarna firmly on the map.
Already land prices are rising and impressive chalets in urbanizations are springing up along the coast line.
All the way along this part of the coastline you can enjoy impressive cliff faces high and steep with fantastic sea views, although in Karvana itself there is an excellent beach.
Kavarna is easily reached and well connected to other tourist destinations. The main Varna – Kavarna road which passes through Balchik makes any trip quick and simple, via this route you also pass by the beach hotspots of Albena and Golden Sands.
There are plenty of links to the past here.
The high hill of Chirakman has the remains of Roman villas and walls, medieval buildings and churches. The town museum has interesting exhibits of the town's history, including an impressive Thracian collection, and also an Art Gallery and an Archaeological Museum.
Six kilometres away from the city to the east is the Kaliakra cape, here an ancient fortress called Tirisis was located. According to legend the fortress was guards the treasures of Lyzimah, successor of Alexander the Great.
Today there are still remains of those ancient settlements.
One can also reads there a legend telling the story of several Bulgarian girls who chose to jump from the high cape into the sea rather than be captured by the Turks and converted to Islam.
The present day Kavarna offers the visitor typical Bulgarian cuisine in its many restaurants, seafood, local dishes as well as pizzas, spaghetti etc. Prices in the town are well affordable and food shops are cheap.
