Stara Zagora is a most interesting town in the centre of Bulgaria. Bourgas can be easily visited for a day or weekend break, as is Plovdiv (1h 30m away) and Sofia (approximately 30mins further).

Stara Zagora was once the industrial heartland of communist Bulgaria, now amongst the remains of a working class town, modern shops and offices are opening and the town is coming to life. The shopping centre is equal to most others in this part of the world and new indoor malls have been opened and are successful.

Stara Zagora is well known for its large outdoor markets where you can buy anything from shoes to electrical goods at very reasonable prices. On the roadsides you will be unable to resist the fresh fruit and vegetables which are sold. The stalls are open every day and the quality of the produce is of an exceptionally high standard.

Stara Zagora has its own charm, it is true that while many of the old communist style flats in the inner part of the town are in need of repair, the infrastructure too, there are many areas of beauty. There are several large parks in the town, open and green, with a number of monuments and sporting wide paths, gardens and a variety of flowers, trees and shrubs. Many of the streets and avenues throughout the town are lined with walnut trees, a reminder of a past era. Stara Zagora is one of the biggest towns in the country with around 150,000 inhabitants.

So why buy a property in Stara Zagora? Simply, this town has a great deal of potential for the investor, rapidly expanding and with a great deal of new business, land and house prices are on the increase and a surrounding countryside which is breathtaking. All around Stara Zagora, you will find beautiful rural villages, with friendly people within a 30 minute radius. Very similar to old English villages or Spanish pueblos in way of life, you can still buy your fresh milk straight from the cow and have neighbours who still farm their plot of land in the traditional way, animals like chickens and pigs included. So if you are after rural life, but within easy reach of a more modern town Stara Zagora could be the answer for you. Houses in this region are still at very low attractive prices, and have large surrounding plots of land many with views to the country and the Balkan mountain range.
