Super Borovets”.
This project has the co operation of the Bulgarian government who announced plans recently to expand the ski resort of Borovets and change it into a world class mountain ski resort. Project “Super Borovets” will expand the existing ski resort and turn it into an all-round ski resort and tourist centre. Carefully planned with ecological and strategic objectives, the countryside will be protected as will the surrounding national park. Existing facilities will be improved and expanded. Borovets at present has just under 60km of ski slopes, this will be increased to 100km with an injection of over 500 million euros.
The project has been given
class A investor status by the Bulgarian government.
No other Bulgarian resort has had such investment. The “Super Borovets” project ensures that Borovets is the
top place in Bulgaria to invest in.
Property prices are at present relatively low, but the area is set to boom in the coming years.
The project was officially launched in October 2007 and is expected to be completed in 2012. The master plan has been approved and financing is in place to start the project. Two new villages will be created and linked via gondolas across the Borovets ski area.
Would you like to know more about why to
buy a property in Borovets and where it is located?
Area 1 in Lower Borovets.
A new tourist village is to be created near Samokov. Built at a height of 1000m a new 10km gondola will take skiers to the Tastrebets and Mardudijik ski areas. This area will target lower budget tourists but will still offer a wide variety of facilities including an 18-hole golf course.
Area 2 in upper Borovets.
Shumnatitsa/Bialata Poliana at 1400m and Gvardeiska Poliana/Mecha 1600m will offer luxury hotels and ski chalets. Restuarants, model farms, river side parks and a horse riding centre are planned. There will alsobe a 18 hole golf course with fantastic views of the Rila Mountains and a gondola linking the area to the Borovets ski resort. As a general theme running throughout the project the area will protected and eco friendly.
After the reconstruction and the expansion of the resort, the lifts are expected to carry 35 000 tourists every 90 minutes. As well as the two new cable cars constructed to connect the towns of Samokov to Sokolets Peak and the Markudjitsi. Numerous other ski- and tow-lifts, as well as a covered stadium form only a part of the equipment and services to be constructed.
Several additional ski slopes will be constructed in Borovets also. One of them will actually enter Samokov, allowing tourists to get back to the town with their skies still on. The general idea of investors is to construct the slopes in such a way as to allow more than 50% of them to be suitable for use by beginners or intermediate skiers. The architectural plan of the project is expected to be ready this autumn, when independent experts, licensed by the Ministry of Ecology will make an ecological appraisal.
The total number of beds is expected to reach 12-15 000 more than double the present total of 6-7 000 at the moment. The purpose of the project is to attract tourists not only during the ski season, but also during the summer months, for that reason new paths for walking, horse riding and mountain biking will be provided. The new forms of tourism will include cultural, eco and rural tourism.
The project also foresees two golf courses – one in the region of Bjala Poljana north of Borovets and one near the town of Samokov, in an attractive area between two rivers.
Another huge golf course is projected for 2007 at Dolna Banya to the east of Borovets.
